Alex Christoforou is a Cyprus-based geopolitical commentator, best known as co-founder, president and chairman of The Duran, which he co-hosts with Alexander Mercouris. The outlet is operated through DRN Media PLC in Nicosia and began in 2016 as a news and analysis site before expanding into daily video. He also publishes a separate YouTube channel of his own, typically filmed on foot from Nicosia, Limassol or Larnaca.
A Cypriot whose father was a diplomat, he spent much of his childhood in the United States, Mexico and the then-Soviet Union. He studied economics at the College of William & Mary and took an MBA at the Thunderbird School of Global Management, then worked in technology — including as founder of the messaging platform Wadja Media — before turning full-time to political commentary. In a 2023 Cyprus Mail interview he described himself as part journalist, part entrepreneur, and placed the Iraq War and the collapse of the WMD rationale among the events that shifted his view of official narratives.
