Chas Freeman

Ambassador Chas W. Freeman Jr. is a retired career US Foreign Service officer with over three decades of diplomatic experience at the highest levels. He served as US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, and as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs during the mediation of Namibian independence.

Since retiring, Freeman has become one of the most outspoken senior American diplomats challenging the assumptions of US foreign policy. His commentary spans US–China relations, the structural decline of American primacy, Middle East policy failures, and the emergence of a multipolar international order. He writes from direct policy-making experience rather than academic theory.

Freeman publishes written remarks and speeches on his personal website chasfreeman.net, has recently begun posting on Substack, and appears frequently as a guest on independent geopolitical programmes including Judging Freedom, Dialogue Works, and Glenn Diesen's show.
