Why Offstream tracks this voice

Brings direct operational and military-institutional experience to his analysis of ongoing conflicts, with a track record of public truth-telling that predates his online commentary. His 2012 Ridenhour Prize recognised a willingness to contradict official accounts of the Afghanistan war from inside the institution, the same independence that informs his current work.

Biography

Daniel L. Davis is a retired United States Army Lieutenant Colonel and the host of Daniel Davis / Deep Dive, a daily programme analysing war, national security, politics and foreign policy. He deployed to combat four times — Operation Desert Storm, Iraq, and twice to Afghanistan — and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Davis came to wider attention in 2012 when, as a serving officer, he published a public account contradicting official optimism about the war in Afghanistan, work for which he received the Ridenhour Prize for Truth-Telling. He later served as a senior fellow with the Washington think tank Defense Priorities before building his independent platform.

His current output combines his own analysis with extended interviews of military officers, former intelligence officials and regional specialists, with a particular focus on the war in Ukraine, escalation in the Middle East, and the limits of US military power.
